Here’s how much you’ll pay for SimpliSafe monitoring, security system packages, equipment, and installation.
How much does SimpliSafe cost?
SimpliSafe alarm system packages range from $229 to $489, or you can build a customized package. You can also choose from three different monitoring packages ranging from $9.99 to $24.99 per month, or you can opt for no monitoring package at all.
Then, there’s the choice of installing the system yourself or taking advantage of the flat-rate $75 SimpliSafe professional installation.
SimpliSafe also offers discounts when you add the Interactive Monitoring package to your purchase. This discount can knock up to $100 off the price. Also, the home security company often offers a free HD security camera with the purchase of a package.
We like that SimpliSafe alarm systems offer a wide range of choices so you can get the system and services best suited for your home, whether you live in a tiny apartment or a sprawling, multi-level home.
SimpliSafe is a home security system that can be easily installed by just about anyone (here are some installation tips).

SimpliSafe monthly monitoring fee
There’s only one monthly fee associated with SimpliSafe home security systems: the professional monitoring plan. The cost depends on which monitoring plan you choose.
The Self Monitoring plan is your DIY option. The Interactive Monitoring and Standard Monitoring packages use a cellular connection, so they work well for homes without a dedicated landline.

The Self Monitoring with Camera Recordings package for alarm systems is the least expensive at $9.90 per month. It includes 30 days of unlimited video storage for up to five cameras, advanced SMS alerts, and custom private phone notifications. Plus, you can arm the home security system using your phone.
The Standard Monitoring service is a little more expensive at $14.99 per month, and we think it is worth the splurge. It monitors water leaks and temperature changes. It also includes 24/7 professional monitoring, fire monitoring, and a cellular connection for homes that don’t have landlines.
This also means that you’ll always be able to call police or emergency services, even when traditional phone serves are interrupted. So if a tree falls on your phone line, or you forget to pay your bill, you’ll still be able to get help in an emergency.
The Interactive monitoring plan costs $24.99 per month. It includes all of the features of the other two plans combined. Plus, it will save the recordings from up to 10 cameras for 30 days. SimpliSafe also offers customers a free security camera when they sign up for this monitoring service package.
Our favorite part about this alarm system package is the convenience it offers. You can arm and disarm the whole system using the app. Forget to arm the system before you got into bed? No problem—just use the app and snuggle in. You can also use this package with your smart home devices.
Our favorite smart home integration is setting the August Lock to lock/unlock when you arm/disarm your SimpliSafe home security system.

SimpliSafe self-monitoring
If you don’t want to pay a monthly fee, you can use the home security system without a monitoring plan, but going it alone limits how well the system works. If you choose to self-monitor with your SimpliSafe system, you’ll lose access to these features:
- Call center access during an emergency
- Cloud storage for videos
- System arming/disarming with the app
We don’t recommend going without a monitoring plan. The siren will still work to scare off intruders and you can view live footage from the camera using the app, but that’s about it.
If the thought of setting up anything electronic makes you nervous, you can hire a professional. SimpliSafe’s professional installation fee is $99, no matter which package you choose.
SimpliSafe equipment packages
Packages range from $229 to $489, and SimpliSafe doesn’t run a credit check—even with bigger packages. There are five main types of packages SimpliSafe likes to advertise, but they have a few more that are almost identical to the main five. Typically, the only difference is an added sensor or two.
For simplicity, we’re comparing the main five and the equipment that is included beyond the base station, keypad, entry sensors, and motion sensors that come with every package.

The Foundation
Think of The Foundation like a starter pack. It comes with the basics you’ll need to create a home security system. If you have an apartment, this package is ideal since you probably won’t need more than one entry sensor.
The Essentials
The Essentials package offers two more entry sensors—a good choice if your home only has one door and a couple of windows you would like to monitor.
The Hearth
The first two packages come with a 95 dB siren. With The Hearth package, the siren gets bumped up to 105 dB. The big difference? The first siren is about as loud as a motorcycle, while the second siren is as loud as a rock concert.1 The more piercing the siren, the more likely it is to wake you up and scare an intruder.
This package also includes a smoke detector. While you might not think “fire safety” when planning home security, smoke detectors are essential to home safety.
The Knox
The Knox is for a larger home. It includes six entry sensors to use on doors and windows and two motion sensors. Like The Hearth home security system, it also comes with a 105 dB siren and a smoke detector.
The Haven
The Haven offers full-home coverage. Not only does it include the louder siren and a smoke detector, it also features a panic button, a water sensor to detect floods and leaks, and a temperature sensor.
SimpliSafe equipment costs
Extra equipment costs anywhere from $3.99 to $169. If you have a bigger home or special needs, you may find that SimpliSafe’s premade packages don’t work for you. Luckily, you can customize your package by adding items ร la carte, or you can build your own package.
Here are equipment costs:
- Entry sensor: $14.99
- SimpliSafe Smart Lock: $99.00
- Motion sensor: $29.99
- Extra keypad: $69.99
- Key fob: $24.99
- Water sensor: $19.99
- SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro: $169.00
- Smoke detector: $29.99

SimpliSafe cancellation fees, returns, and warranty
SimpliSafe doesn’t make customers sign a contract (major score for you), so there are no cancelation fees. Even better than the freedom that comes from being contract-free is the fact you can return SimpliSafe products for free.
SimpliSafe has a 60-day satisfaction guarantee for all equipment. If you don’t like it, you can return it. The company will pay for shipping and then return your money in a few days. You just need to contact their customer service.
